A spark ignited when three long time employees of MTV Networks: Drew Yowell, Dave Hnatiuk, and Dave Huston, decided to pool their creative musical talents and form EarShock, a unique music collaborative that creates music for film, television, and the music industry.
With combined backgrounds in composing, music production, engineering, sound design, music supervision, and live performance, EarShock is a music powerhouse that is actively building music for the entertainment industry.
EarShock has composed music for Viacom launch campaigns, PSAs, promos, show themes, integrated marketing initiatives, and has cues continuously running on Viacom networks to promote programming.
EarShock Agent / Producer
Dave, the son of a professional music family, started his career in music supervision working for ABC/Disney, where his team won an Emmy for “All My Children.”
From there, Dave built the first music department from the ground up for the Fox News Channel, where he produced music and worked as a sound designer for The O’Reilly Factor, The Fox Report, and many other programs.
Dave then brought his talents to MTV, working as a sound designer, mixer, and music producer on shows such as Jersey Shore, Punk’d, Jackass, America’s Best Dance Crew, Beavis and Butthead, Ridiculousness and more.
In the world of film, Dave has music supervised features for Sony Pictures, and New Line Cinemas, putting together soundtracks for films starring Glenn Close, James Marsden, Elizabeth Banks, Teri Polo, Cheech & Chong and more.
Dave also co-wrote the definitive textbook on the art and business of music supervision for Music Sales Corp in 2005 entitled Music Supervision: The Complete Guide To Selecting Music for Movies, TV, Games and New Media. He developed the first ever curriculum for Music Supervision at NYU, which led to a publishing deal for the first textbook written for the field of Music Supervision, which is now used by many universities across the country, including Northeastern University, Berklee College of Music, and many others.
Producer / Composer / Musician / Arranger / Lyricist
Drew Yowell is a producer, songwriter, and artist who has worked with legends like Phoebe Snow, David Lasley, Desmond Child, David Benoit, Dae Bennett, Herb Alpert, and Will Lee. He has played guitar for Sophie B. Hawkins and Kristin Hoffmann, among many others, and has opened for acts such as James Taylor, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith, and Journey.
It should come as no surprise that Drew is such an amazing musician, considering he comes from a family of musicians (his father having played alongside jazz greats such as Charlie Parker and Billie Holiday).
Drew has been composing music his entire life, has produced records for numerous artists over the past 20 years, and was a Top 20 Finalist in the American Idol Songwriter Contest, competing against over 100,000 entries.
Drew has composed music for award winning campaigns for MTV Networks, fronts the Drew Yowell band, and actively plays the New York circuit.
Producer / Composer / Musician / Arranger / Recording & Mixing Engineer
Dave started playing piano at the age of 7. Playing in bands throughout his high school years, he took up saxophone and drums, and began composing his own music. He attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music, majoring in music production and engineering, afterwards cutting his teeth at the world renowned Hit Factory recording studio in New York, where he worked alongside artists such as Beyoncé, Coldplay, Rob Thomas, L’il Kim, and others.
Dave has been a sound designer, mixer, and composer at MTV since 2006, having worked on various projects for Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Usher, and many other artists.
He has also mixed and sound designed promos for MTV shows such as the Real World, Jersey Shore, Teen Wolf, Teen Mom, as well as spots for Subway, Neutrogena, Pepsi, Purina, The Army, Trojan, and many others.
